The cast is now set for the Broadway premiere of Sam Shepard’s 1982 play Fool for Love. Emmy winner Tom Pelphrey and Tony nominee Gordon Joseph Weiss will join the previously announced Nina Arianda and Sam Rockwell in the Daniel Aukin-directed production. The show will begin performances on September 15 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, where it is set to open on October 8.
Pelphrey will play Martin. He won two Daytime Emmys for his performance on The Guiding Light and made his Broadway debut in 2012 in End of the Rainbow. He returns to MTC after appearing in By the Water. Weiss takes on the role of The Old Man. He received a Tony nomination in 1989 for Ghetto; his additional Broadway credits include Sly Fox, The Life and Jelly’s Last Jam.
Set in a seedy Mojave Desert motel, Fool for Love follows two old flames as they explore the secrets and desires of their tangled past. The production played the Williamstown Theatre Festival last year; Arianda, Rockwell and Weiss reprise their performances for the Broadway transfer.
The staging will feature set design by Dane Laffrey, costumes by Anita Yavich, lighting design by Justin Townsend and sound design by Ryan Rumery.
